It's a parched future, and water, the galaxy's only valuable commodity, is controlled by the evil Templars. There's a generally broad and good humour about the whole film, and the cast play it up quite well. Thoughtful spfx for a shoestring budget. When the jokes do land, they land well. In a distant future scarce of water, space pirates get caught after stealing ice from a spaceship. A little movie with a lot of heart. The premise is pretty straight forward for a science fiction movie: in a far-flung galaxy water has become the most hard to come by commodity and a big, evil. The slight film tries some witless smart-aleck jokes, fails in its intention to be campy and crudely settles for being a low-level goofy spoof of Star Wars. They are sold to a princess looking for her dad. ''The Ice Pirates,'' which has been rated PG (''Parental Guidance Suggested''), contains dialogue heavily laced with double-entendre witlessness. .
