There are really two main designs of sheet, horizontal and vertical racks. As a general rule, horizontal racks can support more weight, as they have a far lower centre of gravity so are a reduced amount likely to topple over. However, they take up far more floor area, which is in high demand if you just have a limited space to working out in. Vertical racks entertain a far smaller footprint, but ensure that you put your heaviest dumbbells towards the bottom of the holder to lower its centre of gravity. One of the important considerations of buying a holder is how much you are able to spend on it. Larger shelves with greater carrying volumes tend to be more expensive than more compact ones, but you can pick up a good deal by looking for a high quality second-hand dumbbell rack, particularly via an old gym or fitness centre that is closing down.
