Armed Woman Stops Shooter in TX

“On Sunday, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant! Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting? There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened. Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week. This just happened folks!” Read it here.

The off-duty officer was 1. an officer, and 2. working security at the theater. That’s who we need stopping these kinds of things. If you think that another public shooting is proof that we need more armed people in this country, you’re a lunatic.

You make no sense: 1. Newtown where there were no armed good guys = mass killing. 2. Theater where there was an armed good guy = killer stopped. So therefore, yeah, more armed good guys does in fact actually mean less mass shootings. And stricter gun controls means exactly that: less armed good guys. The fact that she was an officer is of no relevance, as she was off duty, and therefore was armed as a private citizen and not as a law enforcement officer. I know, ideally, we’d like to live in a world where bad guys don’t have guns. But the genie is out of the bottle; the fire has been stolen from Olympus – pick your metaphor. It’s done. Bad guys have them. Disarming good guys is not the solution. Had there been an armed “good guy” at Newtown – be it faculty member, paid security guard, or actual cop – there would have been much less bloodshed.

“Good guys” and “bad guys” is a grossly over-simplistic way of looking at these people. Everyone is just a “guy” until they’re in one of these situations, and it’s impossible to predict how any individual would react.

She was armed as a private citizen but her training doesn’t stop just because she’s off the clock. The ability to purchase a gun doesn’t come with training or responsibility, and this vigilante mentality that’s sweeping the pro-gun crowd needs to be curbed. You don’t become a superhero by walking around with a gun. You’re not a “good guy” just because you have a CCW.

I think there’s a much bigger talk to be had than “GUNS GOOD” or “GUNS BAD” in the gun control discussion. Disarming everyone is impossible, both in terms of security and practicality. At the same time, this push for more guns rather than ensuring that the guns we have end up not becoming further liabilities is alarming. You say that a “good guy” with a gun would have stopped Adam Lanza sooner – I say if people were required to store their guns safely, Lanza’s mother might have had her guns in a safe and Lanza wouldn’t have had the easy access he did. Would it if stopped him for certain? We’ll never know, but it might have. And if it had, maybe we’re not left guessing how many dead we could have saved.

Ditto for me regarding the comments by URKinninMee. Aestro, you are a loon. Concealed carry means that the bad guys don’t know who is carrying, therefore, the bad guys are less likely to try to slaughter people. Or are you even old enough to have any common sense. Adam Lanza’s mother waited too long to have him committed. It was her fault and no one else’s. She knew he was a ticking time bomb, but did not have the courage to admit she raised a lunatic, so now we have 26 dead people because a mother was too weak-kneed to admit that her son deserved to be committed. She is dead now so nothing can be done, but I’ll just bet my bottom dollar that in the moment before her death, her last thought was: I should have committed him earlier.

I’m sure they are missing your inane comments over at the Huffington Post and the Daily Kos where the REAL lunatics will appreciate one of their own.

If you don’t need a weapon now you will as the, Great divider in Chief, continues his fairyland policies.
