“Green Religion” Enters Art World

“I’m a happy atheist,” said famous Nashville sculptor Alan LeQuire (“Musica,” “Athena”) when I asked him what religion he espouses. I suspected he was a “Pantheist” or a “Gaia-ist” after perusing his new “dream forest” sculpture at his studio this weekend. Reading the booklet accompanying his new work of art, that he “conceived in a dream,” I couldn’t help but notice the worship-like reverence for trees, the human-like qualities he ascribed to them, and the one-ness in spirit he felt with the earth and forest surrounding him.

Wikipedia says, “There are a variety of definitions of pantheism…(some) hold that Pantheism is a philosophical position closely related to Atheism. To them, Pantheism is the view that the Universe and God are identical.”

“Anyone who has studied the global environmental movement has no doubt heard the term “Gaia”. Gaia is a revival of Paganism that rejects Christianity… and views the Christian faith as its only obstacle to a global religion centered on Gaia worship and the uniting of all life forms around the goddess of “Mother Earth”. A cunning mixture of science, paganism, eastern mysticism, and feminism have made this pagan cult… Gaia worship is at the very heart of today’s environmental policy.”

“The Endangered Species Act, The United Nation’s Biodiversity Treaty and the President’s Council on Sustainable Development are all offspring of the Gaia hypothesis of saving “Mother Earth”. This religious movement, with cult-like qualities, is being promoted by leading figures and organizations such as former Vice President Albert Gore, broadcaster Ted Turner, and the United Nations and it’s various NGO’s. Al Gore’s book “Earth in the Balance” is just one of many books that unabashedly proclaims the deity of Earth and blames the falling away from this Pagan God on the environmentally unfriendly followers of Jesus Christ. The United Nations has been extremely successful in infusing the “Green Religion” into an international governmental body that has an increasing affect and control over all of our lives.” (See Agenda21today.com)

Earth worship is nothing new. In Romans 1, God describes it as worship of the creation instead of the Creator. Romans 1 (Earth Worship and Sexual Immorality) has replaced God as the new platform of the Democrat Party, says CA pastor John MacArthur in this month’s Decision Magazine.

Romans 1:18-25:

“…For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the creator – who is forever praised. Amen.”

Environmentalism is the newest old religion, and it has seeped into politics, (“clean energy”), science (“climate change”), government policy, (land grabs,”sustainable communities”), architecture (LEED certification), culture (The Green Movement), charities (PETA), education (“carbon footprint”), garbage cans (“recycle”), grocery stores (“paper or plastic?”), corporations (Solyndra), our electric bills (“smart meters”), our lampshades (“light bulbs”), and so on. It’s the “in” thing.

As I slowly digested the beautiful art at LeQuire Gallery, I couldn’t help but stop to read the description next to this eye-catching painting of a tree and a tree saw.

It said,

“Sacrifice of Isaac” $ 4100.

Brody Vincent, an amazingly talented 27 year old artist, explains his oil on canvas, “Sacrifice of Issac, “My choice to use a landscape is only to draw attention away from the actual figurative characters and more to the core meaning of the narrative, that is, situations in life repeatedly call for sacrifice of self to move forward. In this composition, the tree represents Issac and the tool of sacrifice (the drawing knife) is being lowered down from above. The viewer sets in as Abraham and is asked to make the sacrifice.”

First of all, the core meaning of the original Genesis 22 story is not “a call for sacrifice of self to move forward.” That sounds like an Obama Campaign Slogan. It is “obedience to God,” and “trust in God and not in self” for redemption. The Abraham/Issac story is a foreshadowing of Jesus’ death on the cross as a propitiation for sin, the sinless “Lamb” taking our place on the Cross, completely satisfying the just demands of a Holy God for judgment on sin. “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.” Hebrews 9:22. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” Leviticus 17:11.

But, the realization that most hit me while staring at the tree in the water and the tree saw, was that the religion of Earth Worship has been brainwashed into this new generation, and the old, and they probably don’t even realize it.

“Species Equality” is now being implemented in places like the Central Valley, CA where a 2″ smelt (minnow) is considered equal to a human, so the Progressive politicians had the water shut off from acres of lush farmland to “save” a minnow, thus placing thousands of farmers out of work and onto welfare. This is the opposite philosophy of Genesis where God gave man dominion over the plants and animals to name them, take care of them, and responsibly use them to meet their needs. Environmentalism is a false religion. It is anti-God, just like Atheism.

First it was Darwin and his unproven theory of evolution kicking God out of Creation. Then it was Marx kicking God out of government. Then, O’Hare kicking God out of school. Roe v. Wade kicked God out of “life.” The Humanists (man is God) kicked God out of our courts, universities, media and entertainment industry. Environmentalists kicked God out of weather. Remember “act of God” – it’s now “human-caused” climate change. And, homosexual activists kicked God out of marriage and the family unit, which was the pillar of society.

I am anxious to see Alan LeQuire’s masterpiece “Musica” that adorns Music Row in downtown Nashville, and his giant Athena in the Nashville Parthenon. Atheist or not, LeQuire is a magnificent sculptor and I was tickled to suggest to him the possibility of a handstand sculpture. I collect them. I volunteered to pose for it, and before he could say “No thank you,” I was upside down and he seemed to give my pose a little look. I can’t hold it for more than 30 seconds these days, so he may need a photograph. I’m anxious to see if he is someday inspired to make a giant handstand.

Hi Victoria – In discussing the situation in California where environmental laws result in the saving of the smelt, you state: “This is the opposite philosophy of Genesis where God gave man dominion over the plants and animals to name them, take care of them, and responsibly use them to meet their needs.” – I don’t see this situation as a contradiction at all. Man has repeatedly and in many situations behaved irresponsibly with God’s creation. The extinction of a species, it would seem to me, is the ultimate disrespect and an act of gross irresponsibility, for if God gave the creatures of the earth to man as a gift surely this gift should not be shunned and wasted irresponsibly or it is an insult to God. If God in His wisdom created a species who is man in his ignorance to destroy this species? Furthermore if you seek to convince people of the beauty of Christianity I think you fail if you assert that part of Christian doctrine is to be disrespectful and wasteful towards the environment. I think many people, especially younger Americans would agree that it is not an enlightened position to maintain. Concern for the environment isn’t simply a “religion” or paganism. It is concern for the future.

Tony, Its not respecting nature thats wrong, but worshiping it instead of the creator. We are sojourners here and our home is in heaven. We are to be stewards no less, but we as human beings are not perfect and pollution is the result of that. The bible tells us that God will cleanse the earth and purify it by fire before he sets up his final reign.

There more trees now in the USA than there were before whites came here, Lighting burned lots of the forest …we plant and cut and replant ….If we didn’t the faster growing trees would take over and would take 50 years to regrow what man does in 20

There’s a typo – you wrote “the new platform of the Democrat Party” – should be “Democratic Party”.

Democrat Party” – should be “Democratic Party”.”

There is nothing ‘democratic” about the democrat party.
